But sexy means beautiful and charming. We should not see it in a negative sense,” she said at the function organised by a women's organisation.Soon after the programme, the BJP criticised Ms. Sharma and accused her of promoting eve-teasing by giving such statements.BJP's State vice-president Suman Sharma said, “it is shameful that a woman who holds a responsible position at the national level has such thoughts about women.” “Her comments are demoralising for women and she should be removed from the NCW immediately,” she said. I think Mamta Sharma is correct. The word "sexy" has nothing to do with sex. As she says, it only means "beautiful", "attractive", "very good" and so on to a superlative degree. In any language usage changes the connotation. For example, "cool" does not mean low temperature. It again means "good", etc.

But, the main problem is -many Girls do want to dress in sexy dresses - to attract Boys. Either intentionally or unintentionally, they do raise thoughts and ideas in the Boys. Dress in public Places must be decent and dignified and should not be SEXY - in such connotation. If dresses of Girls are purposefully made, to raise ideas of sex in Boys, it is not good for either the boys or the girls. What is being shown in movies, is doing such damage already - leading to rapes and eve-teasing of helpless, innocent Girls, by people whose minds are spoiled by the outrageous dresses and behaviours on silver screen.

However certain words though English when used in our country has different meaning on account of its long currency of that understanding. So Mamata Sharma should have explained the whole story. However it is not correct to term certain actions as " just between boys and girls as tamash", because it amounts to encouraging a culture that is alien.The boy/girl friend system or culture is most unIndian. All can be friends. Those who are in love are finace and finacee. Let us not imitate western culture intoto.
