FASHION: Hello sexy

The art of sexiness is in the subtlety.

That perfect balance of hide and seek.

Sexy shows glimmers of a curvaceous silhouette with just enough cover to intrigue.

Sexy is a confidence in yourself while never demanding the limelight.

Sexy is a knowing smile while never revealing details.

I have long been a believer in 'less is more' so you can imagine my excitement when sexy came sauntering past on the runway.

After what seemed an eternity of tacky reigning supreme it seems that fashion has finally relocated its pants.

Goodbye shorts of underwear proportions, tights masking as trousers, and bodycon dresses so tight they reveal curves that no one needs to see.

Hello sexy.

This season saw dresses with sheer elements blur the lines between boudoir and daywear.

Balance is the key to executing the look and Stella McCartney has offered textbook perfection in her past two shows.

Through the use of her iconic sheer fabric with polka dots, her dresses reveal just one or two elements of the female body at a time.

This could be sheer long sleeves or a sheer extender skirt over a short hemline.

Another great example were the dresses with a sheer upper half and a nude underlay.

Teaming the sheer detailing with figure hugging designs and peplum waists, McCartney flattered the feminine silhouette further.

And the high necklines and knee length hemlines kept the look refined.

Sheer and sexy is a trend that can be embraced by everyone as it allows you to highlight your best features.

The combination of this and my passionate love affair with all things lingerie has lead to my nomination of 'sheer and sexy' for this months top trend.

Flatter your best features

To keep the look sexy as opposed to tarty choose one element of your body that you want to highlight.

This could be your arms, legs, back, or neck and shoulders.

The key to executing your look is to know what your best features are and to draw attention to these while covering the rest.

Give work-wear an edge

Minimalist in design, fabric, and colour; typical workwear makes any self respecting fashionista want to tear their hair out.

We are constantly on the prowl for trends that can be applied to the office while never deviating too far from the 'rules'.

Sheer and sexy offers is a shining example of this.

- Keeping it office appropriate is all in the placement of sheer fabrics.

Sheer sleeves are easy to pull off, as is a sheer top with a nude-coloured camisole underneath.

Tuck this into a pencil skirt for an easy outfit.

For those wanting a little more cover select a sheer fabric that also features a pattern (ie. McCartney's polka dot fabric).

Demure from day to night

Whether it's lunch with the girls or cocktail hour you can fully embrace sheer and sexy in your free time.

- Visible bra's look best when they are black and are positioned underneath a sheer top in black or a dark shade of colour.

This creates that little extra cover.

Personally I am not a fan of a black bra under a bright coloured top; the 80's have no place in sheer and sexy.

Team your sheer shirt with a solid block of colour below to balance it out; such as a high-waisted skirt or dark denim jeans.

- Extender skirts (a sheer fabric overlay that is longer than the hemline underneath) or backless dresses can work for daywear with flats and nightwear with heels.

Sexy in your own skin

With balance the key to executing this look, the final touches should keep with this theme.

Avoid overly styled hair and team this with neutral makeup for the best results.

Sexy is about being comfortable in your own skin so let it show.
